- Microfinance (MF)
The microfinance program of Chanura reached about twenty-six thousand eight hundred in the last fiscal year. As a potent weapon in uprooting poverty, microfinance has been assisting the poor effectively in significantly improving their living status and livelihoods.
And its necessity to the poor, as well as the rural livelihoods, remains indisputable. The people living under the poverty line and the poor with lower income are still out of any institutional or formal credit services.
- Financial Literacy
Chanura Microfin Manipur (CMM) organize Financial Literacy Mass Awareness campaign. The Campaign was launched by Mr. S.V. Nemlekar, General Manager, NABARD, Imphal Regional Office at Wangkhei Durga Puja Lampak on 19th Nov 2011.
In the First phase, Chanura tied up with the Friends of Women’s World Banking (FWWB), India and the Indian School of Microfinance for Women (ISMW) Ahmadabad Chanura organized 10 Financial Literacy Mass Awareness Campaigns
- Solar Energy
In Manipur, the electricity was not reliable. People were facing acute problems of power shortage and people were accessing only 5 to 8 hours a day. There was a roster for every alternative day. The only option left to people was a candle and kerosene lamp.
At that time Chanura introduced its “From Darkness to Light” program under the partnership with Friends of Women World Bank (FWWB), India which was launched on 19th December 2009 by Ms. Vijayalakshmi Das, Chief Executive Officer, Friends of Women World Bank (FWWB), India
Overview
Chanura Microfin Manipur (CMM) an NGO/MFI registered under the Manipur Societies Registration Act, 1989, was initiated in April 2007 with an ambitious motto “Better Economy for a Better Nation” serves to uplift and transform the living standard of the downtrodden section in this underprivileged region of Manipur.
Since its inception Chanura has been working for women’s economic empowerment through financial support and skill development activities focused solely on women of low-income households, encouraging and giving various opportunities to make them economically self-reliant.
Today, Chanura is providing its services in 5 districts of Manipur through 7 Branches covering about 27,000 poor and needy families in this underserved region. In collaboration with its strong and generous 6 partners, Chanura has been providing financial services for livelihood activities, micro-businesses, and micro-enterprises. Beside this Chanura has been providing non- microfinance product such as Water & Sanitation Loan, Education Loan, Biomass Cookstove, Water Storage Tank and Water Purifier etc.
To provide the capacity building inputs, its programs “Entrepreneurship Skill Development for Women” has trained more than 3650 women entrepreneurs in terms of financial education, basic business management & leadership along with different livelihood skill training. Financial Literacy Mass Awareness Campaign & Household training programs covered 128 villages so far.
Its Solar Energy Program has enlightened more than 26,800 families by Providing 45949 solar-based products.
From time-to-time Chanura is contributing its resources for relief and rehabilitation for the victim families of natural calamities, Covid-19 and organizing free medical health camps, support the livelihood of fishing folk depends in the Loktak lake, donated solar lamp to the homes of an orphanage, destitute and differently able persons etc.
Chanura received the SKOCH GOLD AWARD 2024 for its Project “Women Economic Empowerment” & its two Clients W. Memmi Devi received Citi Micro Entrepreneurs Award 2011 and RK Indira Devi received Vijayalakshmi Das Entrepreneurship Award 2022,1st Runner up. By honoring its Solar Energy program D-Light, USA has given Social Impact Certificate. Chanura became one of the 30 selective MFIs for MFIs study and one of the ten selective MFIs for Responsible Finance Practices across the country by SIDBI, Access Development Services & Microsave study. And also got sponsorship from SIDBI to attend the “Boulder Microfinance Training Program, 2017” at ITC-ILO, Turin, Italy organized by Boulder Institute of Microfinance, Washington, USA
